The minimum useful job packet
Use one opening ID throughout. The packet should let a reviewer reconstruct the decision without relying on the measurer’s memory.
- Location map, room/elevation and inside/outside overview photos.
- Existing assembly and explicit removal/retention scope.
- All raw readings with named references, units and positions.
- Depth, sill angle, diagonal and straightness findings.
- Exterior throat, finish coverage and installation-path measurements.
- Proposed manufacturer, series, frame option and installation detail.
- Documented calculation, size-entry mode and expected manufactured dimensions.
- Handing sketch, glass specification, color, screen, hardware and accessories.
- Required code, structural and scope decisions.
- Open questions, resolution evidence and reviewer sign-off.
Give each handoff a purpose

A small contractor may assign several roles to one person. Keep the review steps distinct even when the names repeat. For a complex assembly, obtain an independent dimensional check before release.
Use a structured order read-back
- Read the opening ID and installation method.
- Read the measured references and controlling values.
- Read the supplier’s exact entry mode and any factory adjustment.
- Read the manufactured frame and overall assembly dimensions expected.
- Compare the sketch, handing, glazing and accessories with the confirmation.
- Resolve every discrepancy and date the approved revision.
The confirmation should be compared to the site packet, not merely to the data-entry screen that could contain the same mistake.
Treat changes as new evidence
A customer may change operating style, a supplier may substitute a series, or a repair may alter the prepared opening. Note exactly what changed and which dimensions, accessories and code checks must be revisited.
Keep old revisions visibly superseded. Do not erase the original measurement to make the paperwork agree with a later assumption. Record a remeasure as a new observation with a reason.
